Award Winning Producers
David Beedy is President of Karl Productions, Inc. a firm he established 24+ years ago along with legendary investigative reporter Peter Karl. With 28 years experience as a television news producer, Beedy serves as the dedicated Project Manager for all Karl Productions projects.
David is a native of Des Plaines, Illinois and became fascinated with media while attending Maine West High School, announcing on the school station, WMTH. His passion for communications, lead him to Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, where he studied Radio/TV.
Following college, Beedy became an accomplished street reporter at WFYR-FM, twice named Best Chicago Radio Reporter. NBC-5 Chicago was his next destination, where he served as a newscast and Special Projects Producer.
As a union News Producer on strike in 1987, Beedy walked the picket line while his wife, Denise neared the birth of their twins sons, Dane & Christopher. This joyous but unsettling time formed the seeds of starting a video business without the turmoil of on-going labor strife.
Today, Dane Beedy is an accomplished editor at Karl Productions, and an aspiring filmmaker currently in production with a horror-film titled "The Uncanny Alley." Christopher is a teaching golf professional.
Lots of companies say they are "like" family. With David working shoulder-to-shoulder with his son, Dane and brother, Jamie, who serves as Senior Editor/Technology Manger, Karl Productions IS family -- a family owned-and-operated business that treats its customers like family, too. David & Jamie's mother, Rosemarie Beedy likes it that way.
Karl Productions is named after Peter Karl, who is one of the country’s most respected investigative reporters over the last 30 years. For the last 24 years, Peter Karl has concentrated his efforts in the area of community education and awareness.
Peter has won more than 50 awards for his work as a broadcaster including 11 national and local Emmies, the prestigious George Foster Peabody Award, two DuPont-Columbia Awards and the highly coveted Robert F. Kennedy Award.
In 2006, Peter was inducted into the Chicago/Midwest Chapter of the Television Academy’s Silver Circle Society, the local broadcast Hall of Fame. His well-deserved induction was a direct result of his decades as an investigative reporter, and for his many years hosting Chicago CrimeWatch.
Jamie Beedy, Karl Production’s Senior Editor/Technology Manager designs, installs and maintains all of Karl Production’s production systems.
Jamie is David's brother, and is also a Des Plaines native and Maine West alum. Technology has always been a passion, from his days at College of Du Page, to the corporate suites of AT&T, where he designed and installed the production/edit systems.
Joining the Karl Productions team at its inception, Jamie now manages all media and technology, and has developed Karl Production's innovative workflow from the field to the edit suite. In addition, Jamie has developed systems to monitor and troubleshoot the operation on a 24-hour basis, reducing downtime and ensuring that all of our programs meet the highest technical standards.
Jamie's mastery in technology is complimented by his advanced editing skills. The term "Preditor" (producer/editor) gets a lot of buzz in production circles these days. Jamie has been producing and editing artistic and tech-savvy pieces from the edit suite for 23 years. He's a responsive problem-solver and an intuitive story-teller.
Jamie possesses the "Genius at Work" skills set from his late father Royden Beedy, an early Systems Analyst with a keen gift for making early computers solve problems. Jamie today is a mentor/coach to middle school children and his robotics team at Lincoln Middle School won First Place in the INSciTE Illinois FLL 2013 State Finals.
